Since its inception in 2002, The Canwest Raise-a-Reader program has raised over 10 million dollars for local literacy beneficiaries in participating communities across Canada. The 2008 fundraising total in Saskatoon was over $85,000.00 with over 40 local literacy groups as beneficiaries. Canwest Raise-a-Reader is the culmination of a month-long media campaign aimed at raising awareness and interest in the importance of essential skills like reading and writing in Canadian society.
Saskatoon Crisis Nursery
The Saskatoon Crisis Nursery is a home away from home for children aged birth through twelve during times of familial crisis and emergency. If there is no alternate care available, parents may leave their children while the problem is being resolved. Offering a safe, loving, homelike environment, the nursery is a service for the entire family. The nursery can accommodate ten children at a time. Each year, the nursery provides shelter to approximately 1,200 children, often having to refuse service due to full capacity. All of our services are free. We rely greatly upon community support, this past year having to raise over $180,000 to remain viable.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon offer a unique approach to Helping Children One of our key strengths in working with young people is our approach. Boys and Girls Clubs focus on the positive potential of every child because – we believe in kids! We understand the fundamental importance of nurturing young people’s self–esteem by engaging them in activities that challenge and enrich their minds, bodies and spirits.
Thank you to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix and the " Bridge City Boogie" for their on-going support and belief in our program - we simply couldn't do it without you!
